Teachers Work Hard to Prepare for the New School Year

NPS Teachers reported for duty the last week of August to get ready for the 2014-2015 school year.  Teachers prepared their classrooms and attended professional development sessions to enhance their skills in the teaching and learning process.  At NPS we are continuing the use of Thinking Maps in order to assist all students with their higher order thinking skills and writing skills.  Teachers in grades K-8 will continue to learn about how to use Thinking Maps throughout the school year.

Teachers in K-2 attended a session on improving math instruction at the elementary level while teachers in grades 3-5 attended a session on improving science instruction.  Both of these sessions were conducted by staff from the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District Math & Science Center.  We are fortunate to have them lend their expertise and they will return to NPS at some point to follow-up on these sessions.

Finally, all K-12 teachers and principals will be taking an online course to learn about teaching and learning in the digital age. This Teacher Technology Training (T3) course is facilitated by our own staff and was made possible by a grant we received. Teachers will work on the T3 course throughout the school year during scheduled professional development (PD) time.

It has been a busy time preparing for the school year but we are excited about using what we have learned to help students!

Ready, Set, Go!

Wow!  Here it is again.  The start of another school year is just around the corner.  It was exciting to see the band during the weeks of pre-camp and camp in late July and early August and just this week our high school student-athletes have been reporting for the first days of practice.

The beginning of a school year brings a great amount of energy and enthusiasm and this year is no different.  The summer has been busy with installation of a new phone system as well as the arrival of student devices (iPads and Chromebooks).  These devices will be rolled out over the next few months.  Thorough classroom cleaning has occurred, some parking lots have been resurfaced, and routine maintenance has been performed.

Over the next two weeks, we have school open houses and registration times scheduled for our students.  The first day of school is September 2.  We anticipate that the 2014-2015 school year will be the best year yet!  Ready, Set, Go!Starting line
